The application period for the 2013 TJSWCD Scholarship is now CLOSED.The Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District (TJSWCD) is excited to announce the availability of its 2013 Scholarship Awards, including the Annual Eddie Wood Memorial Scholarship. The TJSWCD will give two thousand, five hundred dollars ($2500) in scholarship money to students with their permanent address in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson Counties, and the City of Charlottesville. The scholarship money may be awarded entirely to one student or may be divided based upon the merit of the applicants. Of the $2500, $500 will be awarded in Eddie Wood's memory to a student who especially exemplifies the conservationist ideals of Eddie Wood. (Eddie Wood Bio).
In addition to the TJSWCD scholarships, one applicant will be forwarded on to the Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts VASWCD for consideration in their statewide scholarship program. This applicant must be a high school senior or college freshman. The VASWCD will award four $1000 scholarships statewide. Sucessful applicants can receieve either the TJSWCD or VASWCD, or both. Only one application form is necessary to apply for both TJSWCD and VASWCD scholarships.
The scholarship is available to full-time students who demonstrate an active interest in conservation and are enrolled in or have applied to a college or graduate level curriculum. Applicants shall document a 3.0 or greater Grade Point Average or appropriate equivalent of individual scholastic achievement. The applicant's most recent official transcript must accompany the application. A copy of a school transcript will not be accepted.The scholarship must be applied toward courses for which the student will receive college credit, and the payment will be made directly to the student's academic institution.Individual applicants must be full-time students enrolled in or who have applied to a college or graduate level curriculum.
The scholarship was created to promote the education of Virginia citizens in technical fields with a natural resource conservation and environmental protection focus, and to give financial support to students majoring in or showing a strong desire to major in a course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies.
